Air Android – Text from your computer with ease!

First and Foremost— You can Download AirDroid at https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sand.airdroid

 What is it? AirDroid is a fast, free app that lets you wirelessly (SO Free) manage & control your Android device from a web browser by typing in a IP address (i.e. 192.168.1.1:8888)

The Nifty:

What can you do? The real question is what you can’t do. The simple fact to be able to type your text messages when working, FBing, or just surfing the web and charge your phone in the other room is AWESOME enough!

However it also allows you to do all of this:

  • Files
    Transfer files between Android devices and computers.
    Cut, copy, paste, search, rename or delete files on the SD card.
    Control Cut, copy, rename, send/share, delete, sort and create visible or hidden folders and files.
  • SMS
    Read, send, forward or delete SMS messages.
  • Applications
    Install, uninstall, backup, search apps and do batch processing.
  • Photos
    Preview, delete, import, export, set as wallpaper and photos slide show from desktop.
  • Contacts
    Group, search, create contacts, check and delete call logs.
  • Ringtones
    Search, preview, import, export, delete and customize ringtones for phone calls, notifications and alarms.
  • Music
    Play, search, import, export, delete, or set as phone call, notification and alarm ringtones.
  • Device Status
    Real-time ROM, SD Card, Battery, CPU and RAM status report & monitor with charts to demonstrate available/used/total resources, and one-tap memory boost.
  • Tasks Manager
    Kill or uninstall running apps, batch operation supported.
  • Apps Manager
    Uninstall, share or check details of user and system apps.

The Dirty:

Not all phones can use this! Some even require a fix.

I have yet to try this on a slower PC, so it has always ran smooth.

Problems some time when you have reconnect to the same network when typing in the wrong password.

Skifta – The Official DLNA Digital Stream App

Second, what is Skifta? Well, Skifta is a media streaming tool that you can push your music, photos, and videos on any device that uses DLNA. This is also the first app that has been granted a DLNA cerification, meaning it turns your Android device into an official DLNA device. This app seems a little buggy at the moment, but there are plenty of updates coming in due time. However, even with it being buggy, this app surpasses any other on the market with the tests we have concluded.

I feel the possibilities of this app are absolutely exhilarating. Why you may ask? Well, you can carry around your whole  music collection on your phone and play it wherever you encounter a DLNA-compliant device, such as a 360, TV, PC, etc. etc.. If you’re out and about and want to expose everyone around you to the latest top 100, well this App will let you do it on a DLNA stereo.

So give this app a try and take advantage of using no wires, no downloading and control your digital media on your phone, from the Internet, or remotely from home, and stream it over WiFi to your TV, PS3 or stereo.

PROS:

  1. Stream just about any media to any DLNA device
  2. Works with Game Systems i.e. PS3 and 360
  3. WIFI makes process extremely fast

CONS:

  1. Can drain your battery pretty fast
  2.  PS3 needs to be paired additionally
  3. Don’t use the Android Player
